A Brave New World by Alduous Huxley

---42---
"Stability. No civilization without social stability. No social stability without individual stability."

---49---
"Government'san affair of sitting, not hitting. You rule with the brains and the buttocks, never with the fists."

---64---
"Bernard gave his orders in the sharp, rather arrogant and even offensive tone of one who does not feel himself too secure in his superiority."

---65---
"The mockery made him feel like an outsider; and feeling like an outsider he behaved like one, which increased the contempt and hostility aroused by his physical defects. Which in turn increased his sense of being alien and alone. A chronic fear of being slighted made him avoid his equals, made him stand, where his inferiors were concerned, self conciously on his dignity."

---70---
Words can be like X-rays, if you use them properly--they'll go through anything. You read and you're pierced."

---90---
"But I do. . . It makes me feels as though. . . as though I were more me, if you see what I mean. More on my own, not so completely a part of something else. Not just a cell in the social body. "

---148---
"Murder kills only the individual--and, after all, what is an individual? We can make a new one with the greatest ease-- as many as we like.  Unorthodoxy threatens more than the life of a mere individual; it strikes Society itself. "

---157---
"Success went fizzily to Bernard's head, and in the process completely reconciled him (as any good intoxicant should do) to a world which, up until then, he had found very unsatisfactory. In so far as it recognized him as important, the order of things was good."

---221---
"Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And, of course, stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand."

---222-3---
"Only an Epsilon can be expected to make Epsilon sacrifices, for the good reason that for him they aren't sacrifices; they're the line of least resistance. His conditioning has laid down rails along which he's got to run. He can't help himself; He's fordoomed. Even after decanting he's still inside a bottle--an invisible bottle of infantile and embryonic fixations. Each one of us, of course, goes through life inside a bottle. But if we happen to be Alphas, our bottles are, relatively speaking, enormous. We should suffer acutely if we were confined in a narrower space."

---223---
"The optimum population is modelled on the iceberg--eight-ninths below the water line, one-ninth above."

---228---
"One can't have something for nothing. Happiness has got to be paid for. You're paying for it, Mr. Watson--paying because you happen to be too much interested in beauty. I was too much interested in truth; I paid too."

---233---
"Yes, we inevitably turn to God; for this religious sentiment is of its nature so pure, so delightful to the soul the experiences it, that it makes up to us for all our other losses."

---235-6---
"The gods are just. No doubt. But their code of law is dictated, in the last resort, by the people who organize society; Providence takes its cue from men."

Doctor Who: Hell Bent S9E12 (TV)

I am giving this episode its own page separate from the rest of the show (which will eventually come...) because there were so many great quotes this episode. I'm just calling The Doctor by the actor's name, Capaldi, because their numbers are so tiresome and bland. Gotta say this episode was an emotional-roller coaster, but so full of good quotes

Clara (as waitress)- "You been traveling?"
Capaldi- "Yeah. From time to time."

Capaldi- "Every story ever told really happened. Stories are where
memories go when they're forgotten."

The General- "We could talk to him."
The President- "Words are his weapons."
The General- "When did they stop being ours?"

The President- "Who does he think he is?"
The General- "The man who won the Time-War sir."

Capaldi to The President- "Get off my planet."

The General- "Lord President. He's a war hero. Some of these men served with him."
The President- "These men serve me!"

The President- "You missed. All of you. Every single one of you! How is that possible?
What is it? Is the firing squad afraid of the unarmed man?!"

Soldier Gastron- "There was a saying, sir, in the Time-War. The first thing you notice
about the Doctor of War is he's unarmed. For many, it's also the last"

Clara- "Ooh. Ooh, That's weird. What's wrong with my ears?"
Capaldi- "Nothing."
Clara- "Ooh. It's weird everything sounds wrong."
Capaldi- "It's a side effect."
Clara- "I can hear you. I can hear you fine. It's like, but I don't know,
it's like, umm...something is missing?"
The General- "Doctor, we have to tell her. We always tell them."
Clara- "Tell me what? What's he talking about? Doctor..."
-silence-
Clara- "Doctor, what's going on?"
Capaldi- "Clara there's a sound you've been living with every day of
your life that you've learned not to hear."
Clara- "What sound? What's wrong? Just tell me! Doctor! What sound?"
Capaldi- "Your heartbeat." (pause for emphasis) "Your physical processes have been
time locked, frozen, between one heartbeat and the next. Even your breathing
is just a habit. You don't need it."

Clara- "You killed that man! You shot him! He's dead!"
Capaldi- "It was him or you."
Clara- "I don't care! "
Capaldi- "Yeah? Well, the difference is, when you die, you stay dead.
Clara- "So does he!"
Capaldi- "We're on Gallifrey. Death is Time Lord for man flu!

Ohila- "Hope is a terrible thing on the scaffold."

The General- "Where can he run?
Ohila- "Where he always runs. Away. Just away."

Capaldi- "At the end of everything we should expect the company of immortals,
or so I've been told."

Clara- "Tomorrow is promised to no one, Doctor, but I insist upon my past.
I am entitled to that. It's mine."

Night World (pt 3) by L.J. Smith

***Huntress***

“Their legend says the first world was destroyed by fire. The second world was destroyed by ice. The third world ended in water—a universal flood. And the fourth world—well, that’s ours. It’s supposed to end in blood and darkness—and end soon.” Fav

***Black Dawn***

“Maggie took in the whole scene in a glance. It was one of those moments when everything changes forever.”

“Love is for weak people. It’s a delusion. And it can be deadly.”

The Host by Stephenie Meyer

“But humans are much more individualized than we are. There’s quite a range, and some of them are much stronger than others…Maybe it’s an accident, maybe it’s fate, but it appears to me that the strongest of our kind is being hosted by the strongest of theirs.”

“It’s just like pain, this pleasure.”

 “Humans were impossible to please.”

“Inspiration in desperation.”

“Just got to weather it. Storms pass.”

“I am who I am. I can’t change that, though everything else may change. You hold onto yourself; allow me to do the same.” Fav

“You don’t belong until you decide you do.” Fav

“Humans were good liars.”

“Humans lives were so impossibly tangled. What a mess.”

“This love was tricky; it had no hard-and-fast rules—it might be given for free, or earned through time and hard work, or completely and heart breakingly unattainable.”

“It was funny now to think how I’d gone out of my way to annoy her.”

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

“What has roots that nobody sees, is taller than trees, up up it goes, and yet never grows. –Mountain”
.
“Thirty white horses on a red hill, first they clamp, then they stamp, then they stand still. –Teeth”
.
“Voiceless it cries, Windless flutters, Toothless bites, Mouthless mutters. –Wind”
.
“It cannot be seen, cannot be felt, cannot be heard, cannot be smelt, it lies behind stars, and under hills, and empty holes it fills, it comes first and follows after, ends life and kills laughter. –Dark”
.
“This thing all things devours
Birds, beasts, trees, and flowers
Gnaws iron and bites steel, Grinds hard stones into mill,
Stays kings, ruins towns, And beats high mountains down. –Time”

Foretelling by Alice Hoffman

***Foretelling***

“Some stories are born out of misery and ashes and blood and terror. Tell one of those and your mouth may blister. Your dreams may be turned inside.”

“Our people say the shadow is one of our souls, and my mother’s shadow disappeared on the day she was violated. It shattered into black shards, then rose up like smoke. All that was left was the iron inside her; only the hardest part remains.”

“I thought what the world we were living in was, it would always be. I didn’t understand that one season was quickly devoured by the next, leaving behind bones and memories. I was watching that happen, the way I watched the clouds move past us, high above our people.”

“I felt alone, and I didn’t like the feeling. It made no sense to me. Every warrior is alone in this world. Everyone must fight her own battle.”

“But sorrow is strong. It is lasting. You can’t deny it or get rid of it…Nothing could stop me from being who I was meant to be all along.”
